How to Stay in Shape and Healthy on Vacation

How to Stay in Shape and Healthy on Vacation

Taking a vacation can do wonders for your stress levels; but on the other hand, it can completely derail your fitness regime and leave you feeling demotivated and disappointed in yourself.

But the good news is that traveling doesn’t mean abandoning your healthy habits completely – and in today’s video we’re going to give you some tips on how to stay in shape and healthy on vacation.

1. Get creative

To stay in shape on vacation, you don’t need to hit the gym. Instead, take advantage of the opportunity to explore your surroundings in a healthy and fun way.

Why not explore your destination by bike? Cycling is a fantastic workout, and you can feel good in the knowledge that you are contributing to a reduction in pollution.

If there’re mountains, go hiking!

Going to the beach? Try water skiing or explore the coast by pedal boat. All these physical activities will serve as a workout and add something new to your travel experience.

2. Use your feet

Whether at a hotel or a spot with a high altitude, avoid the elevator and take the stairs! This is an easy activity to work into your day and is a fantastic calorie burner.

When sightseeing, walk whenever possible avoiding taxis and public transport. It’s a great workout and arguably the best way to experience the sights, sounds and surprises of the local culture. This helps you stay in shape while on vacation and is a great way to fully experience a new destination.

It’s important to stay in shape, but it’s equally as important to stay healthy on vacation in other ways.

 3. Stay hydrated

Water is your best companion on vacation. Make sure that you drink enough water while traveling. You should even increase your water intake if you are visiting a hot and humid destination. Water is super important to keep you hydrated and it has the bonus of helping to control your appetite.

4. Snack Smartly

While on vacation it can be tempting to opt for junk food so keep some healthier snack options handy. For example, you can keep an Optifast Almond bar in your backpack for when you’re feeling peckish. Since it’s full of protein, it may help keep those hunger pangs at bay allowing you to continue your adventures.

5. Eat sensibly

Be aware of what you are eating. Avoid fast food places and piling your plate with high carb junk food. Instead, why not explore local healthy options? If you’re in a country you’ve never been before you might find it exciting to try local fruits and vegetables, you can’t get at home. The world is full of interesting and healthy cuisine, you just need to look for it!

These are just some of the ways that you can stay in shape and healthy on vacation.
